Right, so I decided to make vanilla sponge cake. I started off miscalculating the recipe (which was in my head in first place) and accidentally made four times the usual amount rather than doubling it as I’d planned. Not that this was a problem, there’s plenty of ingredients in the cupboards and the fridge.
Most people have probably heard that if you hold an egg in you hand and make a fist around it and just squeeze it, it’s designed to not break. I tend to try this every single time I’m making something with eggs in it and nothing ever happens. It just stays perfectly nice until you give up and break it the traditional way. Anyway, this time Mattias was in charge of the eggs so of course I had to dare him to do it. I knew nothing would happen but told him to hold his hand over the bowl anyway. Just in case. And then it happened – it exploded! The next few minutes were all fits of laughter and insides of egg dripping from everywhere in the kitchen. Most hilarious thing that’s ever happened to me while baking sponge cake. Maybe you had to be there.
Also, the cakes are just fine, just took them out of the oven and they look lovely :)
